Quick Tips to Sell Your Home

If you are preparing to sell your home, it can be a daunting proposition to make your house look its best and attract the best offers. It’s often hard to know where to start in the middle of so much conflicting information. However, starting with home organization and a following a few simple tips can make selling your home much easier.

Clear Up The Clutter

De-cluttering should be the first thing on your To-Do List. If you’ve been in your home for longer than a couple of years, chances are good that you have many personal things lying around that carry sentimental value. However, personal objects like framed photographs or a collection of vacation souvenirs can prevent a prospective buyer from being able to visualize how their own things will look in the home. Remove anything that detracts from the design of the room, leaving just a few decorative objects to prevent the rooms from looking too bare.

Create Curb Appeal

Make sure your lawn is cut, your walkways swept clean, and any hedges or gardening is done. You want your home to appear inviting and well-tended from the moment a prospective home-buyer approaches the house. Giving the front door a fresh coat of paint and a new welcome mat are also nice touches.

Organize Your Storage Areas

Having large closets and convenient storage spaces are wonderful things, but if those areas are disorganized and messy, it can make those spaces seem smaller than they actually are. It’s important that you organize these areas to display them to their best advantage. Make sure that the items that need to be stored in those areas are well organized. Consider switching from wire closet organizers to wood, for a more high end and luxurious feel.

Neutrality is the Best Option

If you have rooms painted bright colors, now would be the perfect time to paint them something more subtle. A bright colored room can distract a buyer from visualizing how their own decorating style may look in the home. There are many different neutrals available now, from shades of purple, green, yellow and blue. Keep the colors friendly and not too harsh.

Natural Light is Best

Since many home showings take place in daylight, it doesn’t bode well for a house that can only be lit sufficiently with artificial light. Be sure to lighten up any drapes you own, exchanging heavy, light blocking curtains for sheer or pale colored ones. Open the blinds and shades. Maximize the amount of natural light coming in, and clean your windows well. Having a lot of natural light coming in will make your home feel fresh and inviting.

With a few wise changes, some gardening and some elbow grease, your home can become more inviting and attractive to any of the buyers who come in to see your home. Putting these few simple tips into action will get you well on your way to having a great offer on your home!
